Feature slide: St. Henri Square

Residential squares in Montreal are a heritage from the 19th century. While the original charm of some squares no longer exists, others are as yet unchanged. Beaver Hall Square, for example, lost its residential character and domestic scale many years ago, but St. Louis, St. Henri, and Sir George-Etienne-Cartier Squares, among others, still reflect the enchantment of their original setting.

Residential squares represent a heritage worthy of preservation justified on historical grounds, but above all, they should be cherished as model precincts of harmony between urban architecture and nature (Gazette, 6 June 1985, J8).
